Sally Chesterfield - Dyslexia Download Facilitator
Sally Chesterfield
Diagnosed with dyslexia at age eight, Sally faced learning challenges but developed a passion for the natural environment. While working in conservation, she realised further study was needed to advance her career. Despite doubts, she enrolled in a Bachelor of Environmental Studies at Southern Institute of Technology, discovering her strengths and building confidence.
Her big-picture thinking and ability to connect people became key when leading a wetland protection programme. She recognised that real conservation impact comes from engaging communities, which led her to her current role in wildfire risk management, helping communities understand and reduce their risks.
Sally believes in challenging misconceptions about dyslexia and advocating for individual strengths. Her advice to others:
“The struggles you face today will make you a more resilient and well-rounded adult.”
